Bespoke employer training and recruitment with the Sector Based Academy

Headline Partner  •  Summer 2021

Over the past 18 months, despite restrictions faced by the COVID-19 pandemic, HCUK Training Employment Services have been busy supporting the growth of businesses across the Humber region, some of which have expanded their operations and some of which are brand new enterprises.

Partnering with Job Centre Plus, HCUK Training Employment Services have offered bespoke training and recruitment through the use of the Sector Work Academy Programme initiative. This initiative allows Job Centre Plus customers to discover employment opportunities, receive training and an insight into various roles and be guaranteed an interview with the employer.

From the business side of things, employers are able to reach a wider audience to help them fill key roles within their business, often at short notice. A wide range of businesses have benefited and utilised this service to expand their workforce or open new premises. Sectors to have seen significant growth include health and social care, manufacturing and food production, warehouse and distribution and call centre operations. In total, over 20 employers have benefited – the majority of which returned for a repeat programme – and an impressive tally of more than 400 individual learners participated in the programme, which saw 50% successfully progress into employment.

What do our learners think about the support they have received?

Have a read of Brandon’s story (Call Centre Operations Academy)…

Despite previously being a student, Brandon had limited actual work experience and struggled with confidence. He had been applying for jobs but hadn’t had many responses to those applications, so when he was approached by Job Centre Plus to participate on the course – with genuine potential to secure employment at the end of it – he was only too happy to take part.

“I was struggling with confidence before starting this course but doing this helped me to build my confidene and interview skills”

“I really enjoyed the course and have made a really good group of friends,” he said. “Tom was really enthusiastic and helped me a lot. I was struggling with confidence before starting this course but doing this helped me to build my confidence and interview skills. I am really enjoying my training and looking forward to getting started.”

We are pleased to report that Brandon excelled in his interview and is now in full-time employment working for a local call centre.
