Charity Focus: Dove House Hospice

Dove House Hospice is the only hospice providing specialist expert care to adults in Hull and East Yorkshire living with progressive life limiting illnesses. The local charity gives care and support during some of the darkest of days and prides itself on going the extra mile for families when they need it most.

The pandemic put enormous strain on Dove House both financially and from a care perspective as many services needed to be changed or temporarily suspended to keep everyone safe. With the support of the local community the hospice kept its doors open and continued to provide vital care to families needing specialist help. Dove House also continued to safely allow visitors to patients, often reuniting families who had not been able to see each other for some time.

Linda Johnson, Director of Clinical Services at Dove House, said:

“We know how important it is for our patients to see their families, and for the families to see their loved one, especially for those patients who were facing the end of their life. We did everything we could to ensure that people could enjoy special moments together – from cinema nights to garden picnics, as well as saying those final goodbyes. In normal times this such an important part of our care and we felt strongly that it was needed more than ever during the pandemic.”

Dove House are calling on local business to support them this year.

During the pandemic the local business community was so creative in finding ways to continue to raise funds despite so many changes in the workplace.

Dove House provides bespoke support for corporate partnerships incorporating fundraising, sponsorship and volunteering, with plenty of opportunities for team building with a full calendar of events. All funds raised will be crucial in helping to support the re-opening of services affected by the pandemic.
