A success story: Nu Architects
A success story: Nu Architects
Guest Editorial • Spring 2023
Back in 2009, Architect Nuala Roarty decided to go solo in her career as her work life balance was no longer working as a mum of two young sons. When Nuala made the brave decision to set up NU Architects, she had one client and zero knowledge on how to run a business but as they say, from that day the ‘rest is history’.
14 years on NU Architects’ has grown and their client base ranges from commercial housing developers to small domestic clients. Nuala runs the business independently but works alongside specialist consultants in the same way as a multi-disciplinary architectural practice.
NU Architects’ approach to housing design differs from the norm and comes from years of experience and a clear understanding of what homeowners seek. Nuala has identified that new build housing hasn’t really evolved in the last 30 years to reflect the 21st century lifestyle and she is already actively exploring ways to reinvent the home.
It takes confidence and vision to reinvent the wheel of ‘chocolate box’ housing, but it also takes skill to recognise that ‘less is more’. NU Architects aims to refresh the function and appearance of new housing by incorporating the most popular requirements requested by clients who live in older properties.
They have extensive knowledge, skill and experience to know what will work and what won’t, not only from an architectural design perspective but also from a planning perspective.
NU Architects offers an attentive bespoke design service no matter how large or small the project is, and whilst the desires of modern-day living appear consistent across every dwelling, each project is different.
The company has grown simply by word-of-mouth referrals with a commendable reputation; it has enabled Nuala to be an independent Architect and a hands-on mum to her sons.
Working independently means large projects do not phase Nuala; no matter who their client is, each will receive the same personal one-to-one service, which comes with dedication, passion, and care. This is what makes NU Architects different.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing our work constructed and being enjoyed.
Even more rewarding is that NU Architects is a Headline Sponsor for the second year running for the Hull and East Yorkshire People in Business Awards this summer. To be able to fund this as a small business is a huge achievement for NU Architects, this proves to Nuala that whilst there are challenges in business you can reach to the top and continue to deliver the best service.
