Calling all businesses – Coffee with a conscience

Guest Editorial •  Spring 2024

Safi Coffee is a wonderful project that brings education and business together to import coffee. The coffee is sold and processed in the UK, and all profits go back to fund education for children in Uganda.

With a journey spanning nine years, Safi Coffee has forged partnerships with five independent schools across the UK. This collaboration is not just about funding education for children in Uganda; it’s about empowering the students to learn and grow through a real-life business enterprise, where they acquire branding, marketing, sales, and presentation skills.

Safi’s most recent collaboration is with Wetherby Senior School in London. The initiative was launched by a group of boys in Year 8 who are working hard to build up coffee sales and raise money.

Mr Thornton, Head of Charity at Wetherby Senior, explains: “To raise awareness of our new business, we held a naming competition for our gorilla mascot. Hundreds of Wetherby Senior pupils voted, with the winning name being Godfrey. We will sell our coffee at future Wetherby Senior events.”
