The legal profession isn’t known for its human touch – in fact, it’s more commonly associated with excessive charging, aloof attitudes and an inability to talk to clients in a language they understand.

For the lawyers themselves, working environments are notoriously cut-throat, highly pressured and designed to hold back talent due to old-fashioned ideas of hierarchy. None of which is good for them or their clients.

James Legal is different, though – we understand the importance of nurturing our team to ensure they consistently deliver the consistently excellent service we believe in.

We treat clients as members of our extended family, hand-holding them through whatever legal matters they need our help with, and couldn’t do that without the backing of the team of people who are the very essence of our firm.

Solicitor Chris Cook joined in summer 2021. He said: “It was a pretty easy decision for me to make. It’s like a breath of fresh air – the atmosphere is calm and relaxed.

“Everyone is very friendly and the open-plan office layout means it’s easy to discuss things with colleagues, who are always willing to help. We are all very approachable and make sure we are accessible to our clients. There’s no ego here at all.

“There’s also a real emphasis on our  development and progression but in a caring, supportive way.”

Shelley Sugden, assistant to the property team, joined in spring 2021. She said: “The management team know how to get the best out of people and everyone is treated as an equal.
