Peacock Finance: Time to Spring back better!
Peacock Finance: Time to Spring back better!
Headline Partner • Spring 2022
The season of sunshine, new life and burgeoning colour is, at last, just around the corner.
And with it, this year, comes the promise of an equally symbolic fresh start for the economy.
To use an apt gardening analogy, the extraordinary experience of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen all organisations, in every sector, pruning, frost-proofing and digging in to try to withstand some of the heaviest weather we’ve seen in recent history.
However, now that growing confidence in being able to manage the impact of the virus is resulting in a lifting of restrictions, it’s time to fertilise, water and nurture with growth in our sights.
I’ve written previously about the steps organisations needed to take to re-assess, reshape and re-target their operations, in order to build back stronger when the time came.
Well, now it’s here, and having done that work to really understand why you’re here, what you specialise in, who you’re aiming it at, through what channels, and how you’re going to make that pay, you now need to think about being brave and investing to fuel your aspirations.
Here are my top tips for the things every savvy business needs to do next:
- Invest in a carefully-considered way, using all the knowledge you’ve gained about your business over the past two years
- Consider what your customers really want in the new world order, and adapt your products and services to fit. Has demand changed as a result of what we’ve all just been through? If you’re unsure, research it properly – go out and ask people if needs be, they’ll love you for showing an interest!
- Step up your marketing from that position of clear understanding
- Focus on building profit, not turnover – don’t waste time being busy for the sake of it, concentrate your efforts on the things that bring the most value
- Think outside the box when it comes to your infrastructure. As one of your biggest costs, do you really need everything you have in place? If not, scale back where appropriate to take advantage of the new hybrid working culture – or even consider repurposing office and other space, including leasing it out to bring in additional revenue. It’s all about finding new ways to utilise your assets.
Darren Peacock, Founder of Peacock Finance, explained: “Businesses should have gone past assessing the damage, it’s time to push forward again, ‘fertilise’ their business and grow in a structured and directed way. It’s about putting everything they’ve got into ensuring good profitability going forward, not bad turnover.”
Your first instinct might be to assume you can’t afford to invest in marketing, but that’s where it’s worth sense-checking your plans with someone like Darren, who can look at how to unlock the cash you need. If this enables you to spend £1,000 and, as a result, achieve growth of £4,000, then it’s worth it. If, as a business owner, you’re no longer progressing because you think you’re cash-starved, you should seek advice, because there’s often a way and professionals like Peacock Finance can help you find it and create a plan.
