WHEN EDUCATION MEETS INDUSTRY

During this academic year Hull College has proudly developed and hosted a number of student focused events and projects alongside many local employers.

The start of the year saw the launch of our hybrid motor vehicle courses at our Cannon Street campus, including Hybrid Electric Vehicle Repair, Electric Vehicle charging installation and ADAS repair to name just a few, the launch of this project also provided state of the art industry standard equipment to our students.

This project saw the college engage with over 30 regional employers, through regular consultation and allowed us to develop employer-specific plans to deliver customised solutions to skills gaps in the area both now and in the future.

Within Hull College we not only develop our Further Education and Higher Education programmes but also provide apprenticeships to those students

who wish to earn while they learn. Apprenticeships heavily rely on both local

and national employers to help design and support these programmes to be fit for purpose. The benefits to both large and small employers are vast including helping to build a skilled workforce, positive returns on investment and business support from our apprentice teams to list just a few.

If your business isn’t ready to take on an apprentice just yet an industry placement may fit the bill. This gives young people and adults a chance to gain technical skills, be more ready for the world of work, and have connections in order to secure a job after their course. For your business an industry placement can resolve skills shortages, help develop local students, generate cost-effective recruitment and create a talent pool of new employees, shape the direction of technical education within your industry and upskill existing workforce with mentorship and training opportunities.

Other ways to get involved as an employer or business is via our college events. Throughout the academic year we host open events, KIT days (keeping in touch days] and careers events to give new and current students the opportunity to meet and engage with local business and employers, this also gives employers chance to meet their future workforce.
